Tenebrae is a service of “descending darkness.” It is somber and reflective. The story of Jesus’ last day is read from the Gospel of Mark. While music is played, candles are extinguished symbolizing the upcoming death of Jesus. At the end of the service one candle is re-lit to remind us that even in the darkest moments, there is hope of resurrection.
This service is most appropriate for Maundy Thursday (4/9) or Good Friday (4/10)
